New deal for Young
Young will have nine years and 134 days of major league service at the end of the third year of the new deal. Once he reaches 10 years, he'll have "10 and five rights," which allows the 30 year old to veto a deal since he has had 10 years of service and the last five all with the same club.
If the full deal is completed, Young will become the most tenured player in Texas Rangers history. He'd need to average fewer than 100 games over the next seven seasons to break the career mark of 1,575 games played set by Rafael Palmeiro.
Young's production numbers are likely to be on the rise again this year when he moves down to bat third in the order.
