Gray to start opener

NORMAN, Okla. — It should be no surprise that Sooner ace Jonathan Gray will be on the hill to start OU's Super Regional series opener at LSU.

But head coach Sunny Golloway confirmed it after a test confirmed use of adderall, an illegal substance in the MLB but not in college baseball.

"At this point in time, Jon Gray is an eligible student athlete like all the rest of them," Golloway said. "He's held accountable like the rest of the team's held accountable, like all of our student athletes are and that's pretty much end of the story."

Gray also gave a short statement.

"Well, we all know we're going down to Louisiana and it's gonna be a great team, tough atmosphere to play, but we just got to focus on getting back to Omaha," Gray said. "And my job is to help us out as much as possible and make sure we get there."

As for what the team will say to him, the main thing is they'll show him support.

"Just tell him to do his thing, tell him that his family, his teammates and his coaches have his back," Golloway said. "And if we needed one more thing to inspire us, maybe this is it. So, we'll go forward and we'll take whatever comes out of the stands and we'll just bunker down and go play baseball."

The Sooners open up the series Friday at 6 p.m. at Alex Box Field in Baton Rouge, La.
