Rangers Winterball Roundup – 11/26

Magallanes outfielder Joey Butler reached base three times in his club's blowout victory on Saturday afternoon. Lone Star Dugout takes a look at all of the day's winterball action in the Texas Rangers' system.

Venezuelan Winter League

Right fielder Joey Butler helped propel the Navegantes del Magallanes to a 12-2 victory. Butler batted second and was 2-for-4 with a double, a walk, and two runs batted in. In 10 games, he is 9-for-32 (.281) with three doubles, a triple, six walks, and seven strikeouts.

Butler did some of his damage off former Rangers farmhand Edwin Escobar, who got the start for Lara. Escobar was dealt to San Francisco in exchange for Ben Snyder during spring training in 2010.

Guilder Rodriguez came in as a defensive replacement, playing left field. He went 0-for-1.

Dominican Winter League

Left fielder Engel Beltre singled once in two at-bats for Licey on Saturday, raising his average to .295 in the relatively small sample. Beltre was lifted for pinch-hitter Luis Terrero in the sixth inning.

Fabio Castillo continued his strong start for the Toros del Este, as he worked 1.2 more scoreless innings while yielding one hit and striking out one. The 22-year-old has allowed only two hits in 6.1 scoreless innings over his first six relief appearances.

Escogido outfielder Julio Borbon's hitless streak reached nine games played on Saturday after he went 0-for-3 once again. Borbon is 0-for-19 during that stretch, and he is only 7-for-54 (.130) in 21 contests thus far.
