Selected by Rangers in 4th round of 2009 MLB Draft.

Previously taken by Washington Nationals in 39th round of 2006 MLB Draft out of Alleman High School in Rock Island, Illinois. Did not sign, opting to attend the University of Oklahoma.

Pitched three seasons at OU, including the '08 and '09 campaigns as a weekend starter. Went 18-11 with a 4.28 earned-run average during his career. Allowed 229 hits in 220.2 innings, walking 79 and striking out 155.
