Pitcher, Texas Rangers Organization

College shortstop-turned-professional pitcher Tim Steggall is about to embark on his first season with the Texas Rangers' organization. Throughout the year, Steggall will chronicle his experiences as a minor league baseball player in this journal.

The offseason is finally over.

On Thursday, February 18, I am heading to Arizona for my first ever Spring Training. Minor leaguers don’t have to report until March 7, but I am going to go down there a couple weeks early to get some extra work in and get acclimated to what I am assuming is going to be an environment unlike anything I have ever experienced.

I have a 12-hour car ride to look forward to, but I will have my Dad for company along with a couple books I have lined up and some good music on my iPod along.

I’m going to spend the first couple of days getting used to Arizona again, by which I mean I’m going to play some golf and try to catch both a Central Arizona and an Arizona State baseball game.

ASU opens their season Friday night against Northern Illinois University and Central plays Saturday at South Mountain. Central had a little bit of a rough go of it this last weekend against Bryce Harper and Co. in Nevada, but hopefully they will rebound nicely this weekend and get the conference season started on a high note.

I’m nervous/excited about going to Surprise. My life is about to get a whole lot more hectic and exciting once I get to Arizona to start playing baseball, but this also means I’ll (hopefully) have a lot more to write about, so the blog posts should start picking up a bit.

If anyone has any questions, or comments about Spring Training and living in Surprise I’d love to hear them.
