Joaquin Arias and Nelson Cruz's clubs began going head-to-head in the Dominican Winter League Championship Series on Monday evening. Lone Star Dugout takes a look at all of the day's winterball action.

Arizona Fall League: Surprise - SEASON OVER

The Rafters finished with a .500 mark, two games behind the division-winning Peoria Javelinas in the Arizona Fall League’s West Division.

Mexican Pacific League


There were no games on Monday evening.

Venezuelan Winter League


La Guaira shortstop Renny Osuna moved into the leadoff spot on Monday, and he was 0-for-5 with a strikeout and a run scored. Osuna also committed his fifth error of the postseason.

Centerfielder David Paisano batted ninth and got the start. He was 2-for-4 with a double and a run batted in. Paisano’s two-bagger was his first extra-base hit of the playoffs, but he hasn’t gotten many plate appearances since the regular season ended. Paisano has largely been used as a pinch runner and defensive replacement.

Margarita shortstop Ray Olmedo was hitless in three at-bats. He struck out twice.

Dominican Winter League


The Gigantes defeated Escogido, 2-1, in the first game of the Dominican Winter League Championship series.

Escogido shortstop Joaquin Arias was 1-for-4 with a triple. Arias’ lone knock came off starting pitcher Jose Cappelan.

Cibao’s Nelson Cruz played right field and went 0-for-2 with a pair of walks.

Former Rangers closer Francisco Cordero suffered the loss for Escogido, as he yielded a seventh-inning homer to second baseman Alexi Casilla.

Puerto Rican Winter League


No Rangers appeared on Monday.
