Winterball Roundup - 12/19

Max Ramirez learned he was staying with the Rangers organization on Saturday evening, and then he went out and hit a pair of doubles. Lone Star Dugout takes a look at all of the day's winterball action.

Arizona Fall League: Surprise - SEASON OVER

The Rafters finished with a .500 mark, two games behind the division-winning Peoria Javelinas in the Arizona Fall League's West Division.

Mexican Pacific League


The dominant Luis Mendoza (2.64 ERA/.246 BAA) turned in another solid performance on Saturday, as he yielded just one run over seven innings of work. Mendoza scattered seven hits [all singles] while walking three and striking out eight.

A hard sinkerball specialist, Mendoza not only got strikeouts, but he also induced nine groundouts versus just three flyouts in the contest. He is getting 2.07 groundouts per flyout on the winter.

Venezuelan Winter League


Max Ramirez found out he will remain a Ranger on Saturday evening, when the Mike Lowell trade officially fell through. The first baseman celebrated by going 3-for-4 with two doubles, a walk, and a run batted in.

Lefty reliever Joseph Ortiz induced two groundouts and walked a batter. He didn't permit a run.

Margarita third baseman Ray Olmedo was 0-for-3 with three strikeouts and a walk, lowering his batting average to .202. Olmedo signed a minor league contract with the Rangers earlier in the week.

Shortstop Elvis Andrus flashed his speed on Saturday evening. The nine-hole hitter stole three bases, giving him five on the winter. He was 1-for-2 with a walk at the plate.

Dominican Winter League


Toros DH Esteban German singled once and walked once in five plate appearances.

Alexi Ogando appears to have worked his way into the Toros' regular bullpen rotation. The 26-year-old righty worked two more hitless innings on Saturday, walking one and striking out two. He now has a 2.25 earned-run average on the winter, and he earned the victory to improve to 1-0.

Aguilas Cibaenas leadoff hitter Julio Borbon returned to action on Saturday. The left fielder was 1-for-5 with a double, an RBI, and his sixth stolen base.

Joaquin Arias raised his average to .309 with one single in three at-bats. He also reached after being hit by a pitch.

Puerto Rican Winter League


No Rangers appeared on Saturday.
