The Texas Rangers have announced their roster and game schedule for the 2009 Fall Instructional League, which has already begun. Lone Star Dugout takes a look at the 56 young prospects that have descended on Surprise.
The Texas Rangers have sent 56 of their brightest young prospects to Surprise, Ariz., where they are participating in Fall Instructional League. The circuit features an 18-game schedule, with games kicking off on September 21 and ending on October 14. Players reported to the club’s minor league facility in Surprise on September 15, and they began workouts on Wednesday morning.
In addition to the regular instructional league, the eight clubs located in Phoenix’s west valley have formed an Advanced Instructional League to temporarily take the place of the now-defunct Hawaii Winter Baseball. The AIL will play a 14-game schedule beginning September 24.
The club’s Instructional League roster features a number of familiar names and faces, but there are also ten players who signed 2010 contracts and have yet to play an inning of professional baseball. Additionally, six players have come to the U.S. after spending their summer in the Dominican Summer League.
Lone Star Dugout will be on-hand to provide observations, analysis, and interviews during the second week of October.
