Kennil Gomez earned the start in game one, and he dealt the minimal definition of a quality start in the contest. The right-hander surrendered three runs on seven hits in six innings, walking three and fanning five.

Gomez got the Blaze behind early, when he gave up a two-run homer to Modesto shortstop Hector Gomez.

Bakersfield took the lead in the bottom of the third when they got runs off a Jake Kaase triple and a Gomez fielding error off the bat of Joey Butler.

But it simply wasn't meant to be, as the normally dominant Ryan Falcon entered the game and surrendered two runs in two innings pitched. He suffered the loss.

First baseman Mauro Gomez (2/3, BB) and shortstop Davis Stoneburner (2/4) both singled twice.

Outfielder Mike Bianucci was initially slated to play for Italy in the 2009 Baseball World Cup, but he is still with the Blaze and no longer on the Team Italy roster.
