The DSL Rangers2 went off for a dominating victory on Monday while Hickory pitcher Carlos Pimentel was excellent in long relief. Lone Star Dugout takes a look at all of the day's minor league action.

Starting pitcher Luis Mendoza (4.06 ERA/.293 BAA) allowed just two runs in seven innings, scattering eight hits. He walked zero and struck out seven.

Over his last three starts, Mendoza has pitched at least seven innings in all of them and surrendered no more than two earned runs.

DH Justin Smoak continues to heat up. He was 2-for-4 with a home run and a base on balls.

Right fielder Brandon Boggs (.289/.411/.422) also went yard. He was 2-for-3 with a round-tripper and a walk.

Esteban German (2/4, 2 2B) and Greg Golson (2/4) also had two hits.

Relievers Brian Gordon and Warner Madrigal both struck out two batters in one scoreless inning.

Michael Kirkman wasn’t helped out by his defense on Monday, as he ended up allowing four runs (but just one earned) over six innings of work. He walked two and struck out six.

Third baseman John Whittleman’s 25th double of the season was Frisco’s only extra-base hit of the night.

Craig Gentry (1/3, BB), Dustin Majewski (2/4) and Guilder Rodriguez (2/3) all reached base multiple times.

Left-hander Corey Young was very sharp, tossing two hitless innings, walking one, and striking out three.

Neil Ramirez had problems with control on Monday, walking four batters in only three innings. He gave up three runs—two earned—on two hits, striking out five.

Righty Carlos Pimentel (3.48 ERA/.264 BAA) was dominant out of the bullpen. The 19-year-old hurled five scoreless innings, giving up two hits, walking one, and striking out six.

Right fielder Miguel Alfonzo (.268/.349/.375) was 1-for-2 with a double and a walk.

Cody Podraza (1/4), Mike Hollander (1/4), Erik Morrison (1/3) and Andres James (1/3) had Hickory’s other four hits.

After a very slow start, the Indians are beginning to put together some wins.

Braden Tullis didn’t have his best of starts, as he allowed five earned runs on seven hits in just 4.2 innings on Monday.

Left fielder Aja Barto (2/5, HR) and DH Jason Ogata (1/4, HR, BB) both hit home runs to help pull Spokane to victory.

Miguel Velazquez (1/3, 2B, 2 BB), Tom Mendonca (1/4, 2B), Clark Murphy (2/3, 2B, BB) and Denny Duron (1/3, 2B, 2 BB) all doubled.

Leadoff man Kyle Rhoad was 2-for-5 with his first professional triple.

The Spokane bullpen did an outstanding job of keeping Salem-Keizer off the board throughout the game.

Kyle Ocampo (2 IP), Reinier Bermudez (1.1 IP) and Justin King (1 IP) all worked scoreless relief.

Edwin Escobar (4.41 ERA/.261 BAA) picked up his first professional win after tossing a career-high five innings on Monday. He gave up two runs on six hits, walking zero and fanning four.

DH Taylor Vail had a big night, going 2-for-4 with a double, a triple, and three runs batted in.

First baseman Michael Ortiz singled once and walked once in four trips.

Former infielder Johan Yan struck out two in a scoreless ninth inning to pick up his first save.

Esdras Abreu is starting to turn the corner with the DSL Rangers2. The outfielder was 2-for-4 with a homer, a walk, and three runs batted in on Monday.

Francisco Lugo singled twice and walked three times, reaching base in all five of his plate appearances.

Third baseman Robert Morillo (2/3, 2 BB) also singled twice.

DH Teodoro Martinez (1/2, 2 BB) and C Luis Reyes (1/3, 2B, BB) had solid efforts.

Starting pitcher Randol Rojas lowered his earned-run average to 0.88 with five more scoreless innings, permitting only a pair of hits. He fanned three without issuing a free pass.
