Whittleman hit his fifth homer of the month

Frisco third baseman John Whittleman continued to hit for power, as the RoughRiders won yet another game on Monday. Lone Star Dugout takes a look at all of the day's minor league action.

Michael Kirkman had a rough outing, giving up six earned runs on eight hits in just three innings of work.

Arkansas starter Jordan Walden left the game with an injury after facing just two batters. The RoughRiders offense took advantage of the Travelers' loss.

Third baseman John Whittleman (.267/.463/.800 in July) was 1-for-3 with a home run, a walk, and three runs batted in. All five of Whittleman's home runs on the season have come since July 4.

DH Tim Smith (.311/.379/.444) added a solo home run, his third in 35 Double-A games.

Infielders Chad Tracy (1/3, 2B, BB) and Adam Fox (3/4, 2B) both doubled.

Leadoff hitter Craig Gentry singled twice in five at-bats.

Zach Phillips surrendered one unearned run in three innings. He allowed two hits and walked three while fanning three. The 22-year-old southpaw has yet to allow an earned run in 11.2 Double-A innings, dropping his total season ERA down to 0.97.

Hard-throwing righty Pedro Strop (0.00 ERA/.154 BAA in 7 July innings) kept Arkansas off the scoreboard for 2.2 innings. He fanned three.

Tim Murphy was hit hard on Monday, as he gave up six runs (five earned) on nine hits in 1.2 innings.

Centerfielder Engel Beltre (.219/.274/.304) provided a run with his third homer of the year.

Joey Butler (1/5, 2B) and Ian Gac (1/4, 2B, BB) both doubled.

Davis Stoneburner (2/5), Mauro Gomez (2/5), Jake Kaase (2/4, BB) and Jose Felix (2/4, BB) all singled twice.

Lefty Corey Young struck out five batters in 2.1 scoreless innings, lowering his ERA to 2.39.

Left fielder Cristian Santana was 2-for-4 with a solo home run, his eighth of the season.

Fabio Castillo pitched four innings, surrendering two runs on two hits.

Sidearming righty Corey Ragsdale didn't allow a run in two frames. He gave up two hits, walked two, and struck out one.

Catcher Vin DiFazio went 2-for-3 with a double, a home run, and a walk.
