Michael Kirkman was nothing short of phenomenal on Sunday afternoon. The 22-year-old southpaw allowed just one hit in seven scoreless innings, walking three and striking out eight. The outing was undoubtedly the best of Kirkman's relatively young career.

Right-handed relievers Tanner Roark and Evan Reed pitched one inning apiece to close out the shutout.

First baseman Mitch Moreland had the team's only extra-base hit, going 1-for-4 with a double and an RBI.

Engel Beltre is off to a rough start at the plate -- and he went 0-for-4 on Sunday -- but he did record an outfield assist at home plate.

Corner outfielders Tim Smith (1/4) and Joey Butler (1/3, BB) also had runs batted in.
