Gerrard doubled and homered on Sunday

The Frisco RoughRiders extended their Texas League division lead with yet another convincing win over the second-place Midland RockHounds on Sunday. Lone Star Dugout takes a look at all of the day's minor league action.

Luis Mendoza turned in a decent effort for the playoff-bound RedHawks, yielding three runs on six innings pitched. The 24-year-old spread out seven hits, but all the damage was done on a three-run homer off the bat of Koyie Hill in the sixth inning. He walked one and struck out three.

Second baseman Ryan Roberts (1/4, HR) belted a two-run home run in the fifth inning.

Chris Shelton (2/3) and Travis Metcalf (2/4) both singled twice while John Mayberry (1/4, 3B) hit his seventh triple of the year. It was his second three-bagger in as many nights.

After tossing five hitless innings in his last start, right-hander Neftali Feliz took a no-hitter into the fifth inning on Sunday. He ended up surrendering two runs on three hits in five innings, walking two and striking out three.

Left fielder Steve Murphy (.261/.310/.486) and centerfielder Julio Borbon (.326/.367/.457) both hit two-run homers in the game. Both players also drew one walk.

Borbon now has multiple hits in each of his last six games.

Elvis Andrus (2/4, 2B, BB) and Manny Pina (1/2, 2B, BB) both doubled. Andrus stole his 50th base of the season.

Second baseman Jose Vallejo singled twice and walked once in five plate appearances.

Left-hander Beau Jones hurled two scoreless innings. He allowed zero hits, walked one, and struck out three.

Right fielder Grant Gerrard (.286/.327/.452) extended his hitting streak to eight games by going 3-for-4 with a double and a home run on Sunday night. He now has 32 doubles and 11 round-trippers on the season.

Starter Omar Poveda was wild, walking six batters in 4 2/3 innings. He yielded three runs – two earned – on three hits, striking out five.

Tanner Roark (2.48 ERA/.213 BAA) helped put out the five with 2 1/3 scoreless frames. He surrendered two hits, walked one, and struck out three.

The Blaze had five errors on the night [two from Alberto Puello, two from Marcus Lemon, one from Erik Morrison], but also three outfield assists [two from Truan Mehl, one from Adam Cobb].

Blake Beavan (2.45 ERA/.236 BAA) earned his 10th win of the season after holding the Cougars to one run in six innings pitched. The right-hander threw his fastball between 88 and 92 mph and scattered seven hits while walking one and striking out four.

Right fielder Miguel Alfonzo (2/4, 2B) and catcher Carlos Dominguez (1/3, 2B) both doubled.

First baseman Justin Smoak singled and walked.

Relievers Chris Dennis (2 IP) and Joseph Ortiz (1 IP) combined for three innings of scoreless relief to close out the victory.

Wilfredo Boscan lost his first game of the year – on a night in which he retired the first nine batters of the game.

Boscan struggled later in the game and ended up yielding four runs in 5 2/3 innings. He walked one and struck out seven.

Leadoff hitter Jared Bolden (1/4, 3B) tripled while Jake Kaase (1/4, 2B) and Mike Bianucci (2/4, 2B) both doubled.

Corey Young (3.24 ERA/.191 BAA) allowed one run in one inning of work, but he struck out four batters in that inning. One hitter reached on a third strike wild pitch.

Young has limited his fellow southpaws to a paltry .094 batting average with 9.5 groundouts per flyout this season.
