Young Venezuelan pitchers Omar Poveda and Martin Perez were both difficult to hit on Saturday evening. Lone Star Dugout takes a look at all of the day's minor league action.

AAA: Oklahoma 2 – (@) Albuquerque 8

Brian Gordon struggled in the high altitude of Albuquerque on Saturday, as he served up four home runs in five innings pitched. He gave up seven total runs while walking none and striking out five.

DH Nate Gold (1/3, 2B, BB), 3B Ryan Roberts (2/4, 2B) and RF Ben Harrison (1/3, 2B, BB) all doubled for the RedHawks.

Relief pitcher Kiko Calero walked two and struck out two in a scoreless inning of work.

Yukinaga Maeda gave up one run on one hits in two innings, recording four strikeouts.

Because the start of Saturday’s game was, the Rangers decided to push back Kevin Millwood’s rehab start one day.

Jared Hyatt got the nod instead and technically tossed a complete game, surrendering four runs – three earned – on eight hits in five innings. He walked two and struck out three.

Second baseman Jose Vallejo singled, walked, and stole his eighth Double-A base.

Leadoff hitter Julio Borbon (1/2) had Frisco’s only other hit.

Omar Poveda (5.37 ERA/.247 BAA) yielded one unearned run in six innings of work. He gave up only two hits while walking two and striking out six.

First baseman Ian Gac broke out of his slump by going 3-for-5 with a home run and three runs batted in.

Centerfielder Truan Mehl (2/5, HR) also went yard for the Blaze.

K.C. Herren (1/4, 3B) tripled while John Whittleman (1/5, 2B) hit his 35th double.

Jake Kaase (3/4), Erik Morrison (2/4) and Renny Osuna (2/5) all had multiple singles.

Left-handed reliever Ryan Falcon (3.92 ERA/.266 BAA) pitched 2.1 scoreless innings to earn his second save of the season.

Starting pitcher Michael Kirkman gave up seven runs on six hits – including three home runs – in five innings.

Designated hitter Tim Smith, who was 2-for-4, provided Clinton’s lone run with a solo homer in the top of the fourth inning.

Fabio Castillo was solid in relief, as he allowed just a solo home run in three innings pitched. He struck out four.

Martin Perez issued four walks in 5 1/3 innings, but he allowed just one Vancouver hit along the way. He didn’t allow a run to score under his watch.

Leadoff man and first baseman Jared Bolden was 2-for-5 with two home runs and four RBI. He entered the game with just one professional round-tripper.

Shortstop Ed Koncel (2/4, HR) also hit a home run.

The Indians bullpen struggled on Saturday, as relievers Justin Miller and Juan Peralta combined to permit seven runs in three innings pitched.

Juan Grullon (2.36 ERA/.200 BAA) set the tone early on for the Rangers1, as he surrendered one earned run in five innings. The lefty walked one and struck out seven.

The offense collected 13 runs on 15 hits in the blowout victory.

They got doubles from RF Juan Polanco (1/5, 2B, BB), LF Edward Alfonzo (1/3, 2B), CF Ariel Ventura (3/5, 2B) and SS Junior Payano (2/3, 2B, 2 BB).

1B Alison Perez (2/3), DH Tomas Telis (2/2), 3B Emmanuel Solis (2/5) and C Mervin Gonzalez (2/2, 3 BB) all singled twice.

Relief pitchers Kelvin De Leon, Miguel Munoz, and Orlando Caraballo all threw one scoreless inning.

Starter Cristian Zapata ran into some major control problems, as he issued seven free passes in 2 2/3 innings pitched. He also gave up eight hits, leading to nine earned runs.

Second baseman Domingo Del Rosario (.192/.320/.233) led the way with three hits – including a double – in four at-bats.

Miguel Montes de Oca and Miguel Moreno both singled and walked.
