Carlos Pimentel pitched well in his first start for the Spokane Indians on Friday while lefty Richard Bleier was even better. Lone Star Dugout takes a look at all of the day's minor league action.

Luis Mendoza was called up just prior to Friday’s game, leaving Kazuo Fukumori to get the spot start. The Japanese right-hander went 4.1 innings, giving up two runs on five hits. He struck out three without walking a batter.

First baseman Chris Davis (2/3, HR, BB) gave the RedHawks the lead with his two-run homer in the sixth inning.

John Mayberry (2/5, HR) also went yard.

Nelson Cruz (2/3, 2 BB) and Kevin Richardson (2/4, 2B) also had a pair of hits in the game.

Relievers Wes Littleton (2.2 IP) and Bill White (2 IP) shut the door to give the RedHawks the series victory.

DH Max Ramirez (.363/.457/.662) was 1-for-2 with a three-run homer in the first inning. He was then pulled from the game because of his promotion to the Major Leagues.

After a bit of a slump, leadoff hitter Craig Gentry got his average back up to .270 with four singles – including a walk – in five at-bats.

Elvis Andrus (2/5, 2B, BB), Ben Harrison (2/6, 2B), and Adam Fox (2/6, HR) all had extra-base hits.

Starter Trey Hodges gave up four runs in five innings of work.

Brandon Puffer fanned five in four shutout frames to earn his sixth win of the season. Puffer has not allowed an earned run in his last six appearances, spanning 12.1 frames.

Second baseman Jose Vallejo had half his team’s hits on Friday. The switch-hitter was 3-for-4 with a double. He drove in a pair of runs, giving him 50 on the season.

Starting pitcher Jared Hyatt yielded three runs in 5.2 frames. He gave up six hits, walked one, and struck out seven.

Julio Borbon added his 20th double of the season. It was his lone hit in four trips to the plate.

Left fielder Cristian Santana (2/4, HR) hit his first home run since returning from the disabled list. It was his sixth of the season.

Carlos Dominguez (2/3, BB) and Miguel Alfonzo (2/4) both singled twice while Engel Beltre (1/5, 2B) and Renny Osuna (1/4, BB) each doubled.

Starter Fabio Castillo gave up five runs in three innings. He was killed by a second inning grand slam.

Carlos Pimentel’s first start of the season was outstanding. The right-hander gave up just one run in five innings of work. He allowed two hits – one of which was a solo homer – while walking one and fanning five.

DH Eric Fry was 1-for-4 with a two-run homer, his second of the year.

David Paisano (2/4, 2B), Cody Podraza (2/5), Matt West (2/3, BB), and Jake Kaase (2/4) all had two hits.

University of New Orleans product Joey Butler went 3-for-4 with his first professional triple.

Sixth round pick Richard Bleier hurled three shutout innings, giving up only one hit. Of the nine outs he recorded, six were on the ground and three were on strikes.
