Minor League Roundup - 6/15

Bakersfield outfielder Julio Borbon had a perfect night at the plate while Luis Mendoza dealt another great start in Triple-A. Lone Star Dugout takes a look at all of Sunday's minor league action.

Luis Mendoza has been simply unhittable in his last three starts.

The sinkerballer went seven innings on Sunday, giving up two runs – one earned – on seven hits. He struck out five and didn’t walk a batter.

In his last three starts with Triple-A Oklahoma, Mendoza has given up one earned run on 10 hits in 15 innings. He has walked just one while striking out 12.

Another red-hot RedHawk is first baseman Chris Davis. He was 1-for-3 with a two-run homer and a walk.

Catcher Taylor Teagarden went 2-for-4 with a triple – his third – and a homer, his fourth.

Second baseman Joaquin Arias singled twice and stole two bases, giving him 16 for the season.

Trey Hodges was solid on Sunday, giving up two runs in five innings.

Clayton Hamilton came on in relief of Hodges and allowed six runs – four earned – without recording an out. He gave up three hits while issuing two walks.

DH Elvis Andrus was the only RoughRider with multiple hits. He singled twice in five at-bats. Andrus also swiped his 23rd bag.

Thomas Berkery (1/3, 3B, BB) had the team’s lone extra-base hit.

First baseman Max Ramirez singled and walked twice.

Julio Borbon (.319/.361/.413) launched his second home run of the year on Sunday. It was a walkoff solo shot that won it for Bakersfield. Borbon had singled in his three previous at-bats, making him 4-for-4 on the day.

Borbon also swiped a pair of bases, bringing him up to 33 in 40 tries.

Marcus Lemon (1/3, BB) was the only other Bakersfield player to reach twice.

Jared Hyatt spread out 10 hits in seven innings, limiting the opposition to two runs. He walked and struck out three apiece.

Josh Giles (1.1 IP) and Jordan Stewart (1.2 IP) did a strong job in relief, allowing no runs.

In the game before the Midwest League All-Star break, manager Mike Micucci just tried to get his pitchers some work.

Derek Holland went two innings, allowing one unearned run. He didn’t give up a hit and struck out three.

Righty Kennil Gomez retuned from the DL to post two shutout frames. He gave up a hit and fanned two.

Also returning from the DL was left fielder Cristian Santana. The slugger was 0-for-2 with two walks.

Third baseman Jonathan Greene (2/4, 2B) and DH Mitch Moreland (1/4, 2B) both doubled.
