A+: Bakersfield 5 – Visalia 1
W – Phillips (4-3)
HR – Restko (1, 2), Pina (1)
28-19, 2.0 GB

Zach Phillips has had a strange 2008 season. In his 10 starts, it seems as if he has either been dominant or flat out bad.

He was dominant on Thursday, to say the least.

Phillips went all nine innings, giving up only one run on three hits. He struck out five without issuing a walk.

The left-hander has held right-handed hitters to a .193 batting average this season, but fellow southpaws are hitting him at a .356 clip.

Also, Phillips has a 2.19 ERA at home versus a 12.06 ERA away from the friendly confines of Sam Lynn Ballpark.

Earlier in the week, Davis Stoneburner cranked two home runs in one game despite entering the game with zero on the season. J.T. Restko did the same thing on Thursday, going 3-for-4 with a pair of bombs and four RBI.

Catcher Manny Pina (.283/.336/.368), who appears to be having a true breakout season, was 3-for-4 with a home run. Pina has struck out just four times in 106 at-bats.

Grant Gerrard (1/4, 2B) and Truan Mehl (1/4, 2B) each doubled while Julio Borbon singled twice in five plate appearances.

Shortstop Marcus Lemon singled and walked twice.

Right fielder Mitch Moreland was 2-for-4 with his 13th double of the year.

Second baseman Matt Lawson returned from the disabled list with a single and a walk.

Relievers Hector Nelo (1 IP) and Julio Santana (2 IP) each threw scoreless ball.
