Clinton starter Blake Beavan's strong outing was backed by five LumberKing home runs on Sunday afternoon. Lone Star Dugout takes a look at all of the day's minor league action.

AAA: Oklahoma 5 – Fresno 13

The RedHawks have officially to become the organization’s first affiliate to slip into a rather serious funk this season. With five consecutive losses – including seven of the last eight – Oklahoma is now just barely clinging to their lead in the PCL’s South division.

White had struggled out of the OKC 'pen.

Starting pitcher A.J. Murray allowed five runs on nine hits in five innings. He walked three and struck out four.

First baseman Nate Gold (.250/.364/.508) went 4-for-4 with a double and a walk. Gold, who walked 40 times all of last season, already has 21 free passes in 32 games in ’08.

One night after taking home the golden sombrero in his rehab debut, Marlon Byrd reached base four times, going 3-for-4 with a double and a walk.

Taylor Teagarden was 1-for-3 with a triple and a walk. The triple came off former University of Texas battery-mate Eugene Espineli.

Right fielder John Mayberry was hitless in five at-bats. He is 1-for-14 in his last three games. His average still rests at a rather gaudy .360.

Reliever Bill White (9.00 ERA/.346 BAA) allowed five runs on four hits and a walk in one-third of an inning. The southpaw was a pleasant surprise for the Rangers late last season, but his 2008 is off to a disastrous start.

The ‘Riders took Mother’s Day off to make the rather treacherous seven-plus hour trip from Corpus Christi to Midland. They will be back in action against the RockHounds on Monday evening.

Left-hander Zach Phillips had an interesting start on Sunday afternoon. Although the California native is generally tough to hit and often racks up the strikeouts, Phillips allowed 10 hits while striking out only one in five innings on Sunday. He gave up three runs and walked two.

Gomez has excellent raw power.

First baseman Mauro Gomez (.268/.311/.362) was 2-for-5 with a homer, his second, and four RBI.

Julio Borbon extended his hitting streak to 16 games with one single in five at-bats. He swiped his 12th base in 15 attempts.

Third baseman John Whittleman (.314/.500/.457 in May) went 2-for-3 with two walks. He also committed his 10th error of the season.

Shortstop Marcus Lemon had a pair of errors, also giving him 10 on the year.

Jose Vallejo (2/5, 2B) and Truan Mehl (3/5) also had solid efforts at the plate for the Blaze.

Veteran reliever Clayton Hamilton gave up only one hit in 3 2/3 scoreless innings. He had no walks and no strikeouts.

With the wind blowing at 25 mph out to right field, the L-Kings launched five home runs on Sunday afternoon.

Osuna is quietly having an outstanding season.

First baseman Ian Gac (.364/.479/.788) went 2-for-4 with two home runs, giving him five home runs in nine May contests. Unfortunately, Toledo first baseman Mike Hessman now leads the minors with 16 home runs.

Another hot hitter, Renny Osuna (.311/.398/.476) was 1-for-2 with a homer and a walk.

Left fielder Miguel Alfonzo (1/2, HR, 2 BB) and RF Cristian Santana (2/3, HR, BB) each went yard.

Santana, who has been in a slump, has only played in four games this month. Entering Sunday’s game, the slugger had struck out in 11 of his 16 at-bats over his last four games.

Tim Smith and Jose Felix both singled twice in five at-bats.

Blake Beavan had another strong outing for Clinton, as he allowed one run in five innings. He gave up six hits, walked one [his first professional walk in three starts] and struck out a career-high five. The Irving native also recorded nine outs via the ground versus just one in the air.
