Only two teams were in action on Wednesday, but there was no shortage of pitching, as lefties A.J. Murray and Zach Phillips both turned in impressive outings. Lone Star Dugout takes a look at all of the day's minor league action.

AAA: Oklahoma 2 – Nashville 1 (6 innings – Rain)
W – Murray (1-0)
5-2, 1.0 GU

A.J. Murray and the RedHawks defeated the Nashville Sounds in a rain-shortened game on Wednesday afternoon.

Murray is becoming a starting pitcher again.
Murray, who pitched all six innings, got credit for a complete game, as he yielded just one run on two hits. He struck out five without issuing a base on balls.

Although the Oklahoma offense scored just two runs, they made Brewers prospect and Fort Worth native Yovani Gallardo throw 90 pitches in 5.1 innings.

Leadoff hitter and centerfielder Jason Ellison reached base in all three plate appearances, going 2-for-2 with a pair of singles and a walk.

First baseman Nate Gold had the team’s only extra-base hit with a double. He struck out in his other two at-bats.

Jarrod Saltalamacchia plated both of OKC’s runs with a two-RBI single in the bottom of the fourth inning. Salty also showed off his arm from behind the plate, picking off Russell Branyan at second base.

AA: Frisco – OFF
5-0, 0.5 GB

The ‘Riders will have their home opener on Thursday evening. Left-hander Matt Harrison is scheduled to take the mound.

A+: Bakersfield 2 – (@) Stockton 1
W – Stewart (1-0)
3-4, 2.0 GB

Apparently second time’s the charm for the Bakersfield pitching staff. Less than 24 hours after Tommy Hunter avenged a rough first outing with a strong second start, Zach Phillips was able to do the same.

Will 2008 be Vallejo's breakout season?
Phillips struck out 10 Stockton hitters in five innings, giving up only one run on two hits. He walked one.

With Julio Borbon out because of his injury sustained in Tuesday night’s game, second baseman Jose Vallejo took over the leadoff duties and continued his strong start.

Vallejo was 2-for-5 with his third double of the season, giving him a .333 average through seven games.

Chad Tracy (1/3, BB), Chris Gradoville (1/4) and Jake Kaase (1/4, 2B) had the club’s only other hits.

K.C. Herren did not record a hit, but he was able to work three walks.

Right-handed relievers Josh Giles and Jordan Stewart clinched the victory, each throwing two scoreless innings.

A: Clinton – (@) Wisconsin – PPD (Wet field)
4-1, 2.0 GB

After the snow cleared in Wisconsin, the field was still too wet to play Wednesday’s doubleheader. One of the two games will be made up as part of another doubleheader, beginning at 5 p.m. CST on Thursday. One more game will have to be made up later in the season.
