Andrus provided a game-winning triple

A pair of late rallies helped the Frisco RoughRiders and Clinton LumberKings improve to 4-0 and 3-1, respectively, on Sunday afternoon. Lone Star Dugout takes a look at all of the day's minor league action.

Sidney Ponson struggled in his first start since twisting his ankle against the Angels in a spring training game.

The big veteran allowed four runs on seven hits in five innings. He walked three, struck out three, and served up two home run balls.

First baseman Nate Gold provided Oklahoma's lone run with a solo homer in the bottom of the fourth. The round-tripper came against former RedHawk pitcher John Wasdin.

Kea Kometani walked one in a scoreless inning. It was his second appearance of the season.

The RoughRiders won the game in their final at-bat for the second day in a row on Sunday.

This time it was shortstop Elvis Andrus doing the damage, as his two out, two-run triple in the top of the ninth gave Frisco a 5-3 lead.

Michael Schlact began his 2008 season with a strong start, pitching into the seventh inning. The tall righty gave up three runs in 6 2/3 innings. He permitted four hits, walked two, and struck out three.

First baseman Chris Davis was 1-for-4 with his third double of the season.

Right-handed pitchers Kendy Batista (1.1 IP) and Warner Madrigal (1 IP) each tossed shutout relief. Madrigal earned his third save in the last four games.

The Blaze suffered their fourth consecutive setback to open the season on Sunday afternoon.

Starting pitcher Beau Jones was strong through the first 3 2/3 innings, allowing only one hit with six strikeouts in that span. But after Jones recorded the second out of the fourth inning, he gave up three straight singles before issuing a pair of walks. In all, the lefty allowed four runs – three earned – on four hits with two walks and six K's.

Second baseman Jose Vallejo went 2-for-4 with a double and a walk, but he was caught stealing twice. Vallejo was caught stealing just three times in 50 attempts all of last season.

Grant Gerrard (1/3, BB), Mauro Gomez (1/3, BB) and Jake Kaase (2/4) also reached base multiple times. Kaase is off to a 6-for-14 start to the season.

Julio Borbon singled and drive in a pair of runs in four at-bats.

Reliever J.B. Diaz, who posted a 7.08 ERA with Bakersfield last season, didn't allow a run in 3.1 frames on Sunday. He gave up two hits, walked one, and struck out one.

Chris Dennis struggled for the second consecutive outing, as he allowed four runs in two innings. He gave up four hits, walked two, and tossed two more wild pitches.

The LumberKings won their third consecutive game on a 12th inning walkoff sac fly from left fielder Tim Smith. Smith had a solid day, going 3-for-5 with a triple, a walk, and three RBI, but Ian Gac stole the show again.

The slugging first baseman was 2-for-4 with yet another home run, his fourth in four games. Gac also drew three walks.

Young right-hander Kennil Gomez pitched in his first game above the rookie level and struggled a bit. Gomez allowed five runs – four earned – on five hits in five innings pitched. He walked one and struck out three.

Engel Beltre (2/6, 3B), Cristian Santana (2/5, BB), Jose Felix (2/5), and Andres James (2/5, BB) all had multiple hits.

David Paisano went 0-for-5, but he stole his third base of the season.

Third baseman Jonathan Greene went hitless in six at-bats, dropping him to a frigid 0-for-13 start to his 2008 campaign.

Bullpen arms Julio Santana and Josh Lueke each tossed a pair of scoreless innings.

Adalberto Flores picked up the win with a hitless 12th inning.
