The Clinton LumberKings extended their season with a come-from-behind victory on Friday evening while the Frisco RoughRiders saw their season come to an abrupt end. Lone Star Dugout takes a look at all of the day's minor league action.
AAA: Oklahoma – Season Over
71-72, 3.5 GB
AA: Frisco 0 – San Antonio 5
L – Shoemaker (0-1)
San Antonio wins 3-0 (Best of 5)
Frisco’s season came to a tough end on Friday, as they were swept by the second-half champion San Antonio Missions.
Starting pitcher
Scott Shoemaker
failed to make it through the fifth inning, as he gave up two runs on seven hits in 4 2/3 frames. The right-hander fanned four without walking a batter.
The RoughRider offense provided just four runs of support during the three games combined.
Third baseman
Chris Davis
was the only Frisco hitter with multiple base knocks. He singled and doubled in four trips.
Mike Ballard
appeared in his first Double-A game and retired both batters he faced. He induced a flyout to centerfield and recorded a strikeout swinging.

28-42, 15.0 GB
A: Clinton 5 – Cedar Rapids 4
W – Haar (1-0)
SV – Lueke (1)
Clinton wins 2-1 (Best of 3)
The LumberKings extended their season with a clutch come-from-behind victory over the Cedar Rapids Kernels on Friday.
Starting pitcher
Evan Reed
struggled at times, but he was able to keep Clinton in the game. Reed surrendered four runs – three earned – on nine hits in 5 1/3 frames. He walked none and punched out five.
Shortstop
Marcus Lemon
was 2-for-4 with the team’s only extra base hit, a triple.
K.C. Herren
(2/5),
Manuel Pina
(2/4), and
Renny Osuna
(2/4) also had multiple hits, but none would be bigger than Herren’s.
The right fielder brought home the game-winning run with an RBI single in the bottom of the sixth inning.
The lead held up thanks in part to the outstanding relief efforts of
Jeremiah Haar
(2.2 IP) and
Josh Lueke
(1 IP).
The L-Kings will face Beloit Snappers in another three-game series beginning on Saturday afternoon at 5 p.m. Georgia Tech product and 2007 draftee
Jared Hyatt
is expected to toe the rubber.
