Left-handed pitcher Beau Jones saved the day -- and the season -- for the Clinton LumberKings, as he tossed six innings of one-hit, shutout relief on Thursday night. Lone Star Dugout takes a look at all of the day's minor league action.
AAA: Oklahoma – Season Over
71-72, 3.5 GB
AA: Frisco 1 – San Antonio 6
L – Galarraga (0-1)
HR – Benjamin (1)
San Antonio leads 2-0 (Best of 5)
For the second consecutive night, an outstanding effort from the Frisco starting pitcher went for naught.
Armando Galarraga
returned from Triple-A to toss seven strong innings. He allowed just two runs on six hits and recorded eight punchouts.
But the Missions broke the game open in the eighth inning, as relievers
Kea Kometani
(0.1 IP, 2 H, 3 ER) and
Brandon Puffer
(0.2 IP, 2 H, 1 ER) struggled. It was the first time Kometani had pitched on back-to-back days all season long.
Casey Benjamin
(2/4, HR),
Salomon Manriquez
(2/4, 2B) and
German Duran
(1/2, 2 BB) all had solid nights offensively, but the ‘Riders were only able to push one run across.
Frisco now travels to San Antonio, where they will have to win three consecutive games to stay alive.

A: Clinton 8 – Cedar Rapids 2
W – Jones (1-0)
Series tied 1-1 (Best of 3)
The LumberKings evened up their best-of-three series at one apiece behind an absolutely clutch effort from left-handed pitcher
Beau Jones
.
Jones came on in relief of starter
Kasey Kiker
, who left the game after two innings due to a one hour rain delay.
The 21-year-old southpaw went on to toss six innings of one-hit, shutout ball to earn the victory. He struck out six while issuing only one walk.
In Kiker’s two innings, he had yielded two runs on two hits and two walks.
The L-Kings were able to get their offense going against the Cedar Rapids bullpen, as they pounded out eight runs on 14 hits.

(2/4),
K.C. Herren
(2/4, 2B, BB),
Chad Tracy
(2/4),
Chris Kemp
(2/4), and
Renny Osuna
(2/4) each had two hits in the game. It was Osuna’s first game since joining the team from Spokane yesterday.
First baseman
Mauro Gomez
also doubled and drove in two runs.
Clinton will play a deciding third game at Alliant Energy Field on Friday night. The game will be at 7 p.m. and 2007 draftee
Evan Reed
seems to be the likely candidate to get the start.
