Player of the Month: Mauro Gomez, 1B, Clinton
First baseman Mauro Gomez entered July with just seven home runs, matching his total with the Arizona Rangers and Bakersfield Blaze from one season ago.
However, the slick-fielding 22-year-old managed to belt out 12 home runs in a single month. Only one LumberKing – the departed John Whittleman – had hit 12 home runs in the entire season this year. Gomez took the Midwest League lead in home runs on Monday night when he capped off his outstanding month with two more home runs.

Honorable Mention: Jason Botts, OF (Oklahoma); Freddie Thon, 1B (Bakersfield)
It was just another month for Botts, who hit .352 while reaching base at a .490 clip. He also hit for a good deal of power, as he had six doubles, two triples, and five home runs. Bakersfield first baseman Freddie Thon may not draw many walks, but he did hit .349 in July with seven doubles and six home runs.
Co-Pitchers of the Month: Armando Galarraga and Luis Mendoza, RHPs, Frisco
Galarraga and Mendoza had equally outstanding months.
The 25-year-old Galarraga posted a 1.58 ERA in six July starts, surrendering just 21 hits in 40 innings. The Texas League leader in strikeouts added 42 punchouts while walking only 11. He also tossed two complete games in the month, his first since 2005.
In seven starts since returning from the Texas League All-Star break, Galarraga has allowed more than two runs just once.

In six starts this past month, Mendoza put up a 4-1 record to go along with a pristine 1.51 earned run average. In 41.2 innings, he gave up 33 hits, walked nine, and struck out 28. A pitcher who had previously earned a reputation for being inconsistent, Mendoza has not surrendered more than three earned runs in a start since June 12.
