After a humdrum series against the Detroit Tigers, the Rangers brought some excitement to Rangers Ballpark In Arlington by taking two out of three from the A.L. Central leading Milwaukee Brewers last weekend. Lone Star Dugout takes a look back at the past week for the Texas Rangers, which included the most exciting finish Rangers fans have seen this year.
Centerfielder
Kenny Lofton
prepares to jump into the waiting arms of
Sammy Sosa
after crossing home on Saturday night. Lofton came around to score on an RBI single by
Michael Young
off Brewers closer Francisco Cordero. The former Ranger had only allowed one earned run all season up until that point.
Marlon Byrd
steals extra bases away from
Damian Miller
with this catch in the third inning on Saturday. After his call-up from Triple-A Oklahoma, Byrd has proved to be a pivotal member of the Rangers lineup and has a .407 average since joining the big league club. He also delivered two game-tying, two-out hits in the ninth inning on Saturday and Sunday night.
Ian Kinsler
applies the tag to Corey Hart, who was caught stealing on this play Friday evening. Although he connected on his first homerun in a month in that game, two nights later Kinsler committed a defensive lapse in the Milwaukee half of the 12th that resulted in a three run homer by Geoff Jenkins two batters later. The error was the 13th of the season by Kinsler, which leads the team.
Mark Teixeira
grimaces towards the scoreboard Friday after injuring himself running out a grounder in the sixth inning. That play resulted in a strained left quad for Teixiera and a stay on the 15 day disabled list, the first of his career. It also ended his consecutive games played streak at 507.
Kevin Millwod wipes the sweat from his brow in the middle of a four run third inning for the Detriot Tigers on Wednesday. He wasn't able to make it out of the fourth inning and was pulled after the Tigers torched the veteran for seven runs on nine hits. As a result, Millwood now owns a eye-popping 7.57 earned run average and hasn't won a game in almost two months.
John Rheinecker winds up in the second inning Tuesday night against the Tigers. The scheduled starter that inning,
Vicente Padilla
, was scratched that evening with irritation in his triceps. Rheinecker went three innings, allowing three runs on seven hits but was optioned back to Triple-A Oklahoma later in the week.
Victor Diaz
rounds the bases after connecting for his eighth homerun and second grand slam of the year, this time off Nate Robertson of the Tigers on Tuesday night.
