Despite all of the minor league's attention being turned to the draft on Thursday, there were games played as well. Lone Star Dugout takes a look at all of the day's action in the minor leagues.

AAA: Oklahoma 12 – Round Rock 5
W – Wood (4-1)


The Oklahoma lineup produced 12 runs on 20 hits on Thursday night, with every player getting at least one hit. Everyone but Kevin Mahar, who was 1-for-5, had at least two knocks.

Second baseman Tug Hulett broke out of a long slump with four hits, including a double and 3 RBI, in five at-bats.

Jason Botts (2/3, 2B, BB), Nate Gold (2/4, 2B), Kevin West (2/5, 2B), Desi Relaford (3/4, 2B), Guillermo Quiroz (2/4, 2B, BB), and Dave Matranga (2/4, 2B) also hit doubles.

Leadoff hitter Freddy Guzman, who is hitting a nice .440/.517/.600 in six June games, was 2-for-5 with a walk.

Starting pitcher Mike Wood improved his record to 4-1 with six strong innings. The right-hander gave up just one run on two hits, walking two and fanning five.

Starting pitcher Luis Mendoza pitched well through three innings, but fell apart in the fourth. He ended up allowing eight runs – four earned – on six hits in just 3 1/3 frames. The native of Mexico walked three without recording a strikeout.

Red-hot shortstop Casey Benjamin was just 1-for-5, but he hit the game-winning three-run homer in the bottom of the eighth inning.

Second baseman German Duran (.323/.381/.565) was 2-for-5 with two doubles, giving him 12 on the season.

Backstop Kevin Richardson (.248/.301/.409) and right fielder Steve Murphy (.284/.333/.386) each had three hits – including a home run – in four at-bats.

First baseman Adam Fox raised his average to .308 with two hits in two at-bats.

Scott Shoemaker was solid out of the bullpen, giving Frisco 3 2/3 scoreless innings. The Long Beach State product allowed three hits, walked one, and fanned three.

Kea Kometani (1.04 ERA/.129 BAA as a reliever) tossed a perfect inning for his second save of the season. He struck out one.

Though he didn’t get the victory, UC Irvine product Glenn Swanson (3.86 ERA/.244 BAA) out-dueled Max Scherzer in his professional debut.

Swanson scattered three hits through six scoreless innings, walking one and fanning 10.

Centerfielder Truan Mehl (1/4, 3B) and catcher Taylor Teagarden (1/3) drove in all of Bakersfield’s runs, getting two apiece.

Right fielder John Mayberry was 0-for-3 with a walk and three strikeouts.

Omar Poveda failed to make it six innings for the second time in a row, as he allowed three runs in five innings on Thursday. The big righty yielded seven hits while walking two and punching out five.

Leadoff hitter Marcus Lemon was 1-for-2 with a walk and a hit by pitch.

Left fielder Chad Tracy and centerfielder David Paisano each went 1-for-4 with home runs. The long ball was Paisano’s first as a pro.

K.C. Herren reached base three times, going 1-for-2 with two walks.
