As the Rangers were off on Thursday, much of the attention was on top prospect Eric Hurley's start in Arkansas. Rangers Insider looks at all of Thursday's minor league action.

AAA: Oklahoma 2 – (@) Nashville 4
L – Mathis (0-2)


Making his first appearance with the RedHawks, starting pitcher Mike Wood tossed four effortless innings. The righty, who appeared in one game with the Rangers, allowed just one single without issuing a walk in four innings. Wood struck out four.

Doug Mathis struggled in relief of Wood, as he threw 60 pitches in just 2.2 innings. The Mizzou product allowed four runs – three earned – on six hits. Mathis walked two and fanned two.

Right fielder Victor Diaz (.462/.531/.808) continued to rake, as he was 2-for-3 with a double and a pair of walks.

Marlon Byrd (2/4) and Drew Meyer (2/4, 2B) each collected two hits.

Reliever Wes Littleton allowed just one hit in 1.1 shutout innings. Littleton, who struck out one, has allowed just one hit in his first 4.1 innings this season.

AA: Frisco 6 – Springfield 5

Though the score doesn’t reflect it, Thursday night’s game between Frisco and Springfield as a pitcher’s duel for the first seven innings.

Top prospect Eric Hurley led the way for the Rangers, as he allowed just one run on five hits in six innings. The right-hander displayed excellent command of all three of his pitches. He walked two and struck out seven.

Matt Farnum picked up the win in relief with a 1-2-3 seventh inning.

Third baseman Travis Metcalf (.286/.375/.476) led the way for the Frisco offense, going 2-for-4 with a double, two RBI, and a pair of runs scored. Left fielder Steve Murphy (.333/.407/.375) also had two hits – both singles – and a walk.

It was just another day at the office for catcher Taylor Teagarden (.389/.621/.722), who was 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles and a walk.

The Blaze also got solid offensive performances from right fielder John Mayberry (1/3, 2B, BB) and left fielder Brandon Boggs (1/4, HR).

Third baseman Chris Davis, who had been struggling to make contact, had a double and a triple in four at-bats. Davis struck out in the other two at-bats.

Andy Walker, who gave up three runs on four hits in five innings, pitched well for the majority of his start. Walker allowed back-to-back solo home runs in the top of the third inning. He did not walk a batter and struck out seven.

Josh Giles (3.18 ERA) followed with a scoreless inning, but reliever Jon Wilson took the loss, allowing three runs in five hits in just one-third of an inning.

Thursday’s doubleheader in Wisconsin was snowed out. Because the L-Kings are not scheduled to return to Wisconsin this season, the games will not be made up.
