L – Volquez (0-1)
The Bakersfield Blaze played the system's only game of the night, but it was not a pretty one.
Starting pitcher Edinson Volquez got himself into trouble with walks. Though the pitcher gave up just three hits in four innings, two cleared the fence. One of Volquez's home runs allowed was a grand slam, which came after he walked the bases loaded with two outs. In total, the right-hander gave up eight runs while walking six in just four innings.
Reliever Kevin Altman also struggled with his control, as he walked four while yielding five runs in two innings. Altman also hit a batter. The two pitchers combined for 10 walks in the game's first six innings.
Center fielder Brandon Boggs (.368/.556/.632) continued to streak, going 2-for-3 with a walk and a pair of runs batted in.
Though catcher Taylor Teagarden (.625 OBP) did not pick up a hit in three official at-bats, he walked two more times, giving him 10 in only five games.
Right fielder John Mayberry (.273/.294/.485) and left fielder Jake Blalock (.346/.370/.654) were each 1-for-4 with a double.
Third baseman Chris Davis (.130/.214/.304), who is playing in his first full season with the organization, struck out three times in four hitless at-bats. After recording extra base hits in his first two games with the Blaze, Davis has since gone 1-for-16 with eight punchouts.
Clinton's game was snowed out. The two will play a doubleheader, their second of the series, beginning at 4:05 p.m. Central.
