Rangers sign veteran Wright

Posted Jan 25, 2007

Former first round draft pick Jamey Wright joined the Rangers organization for the second time on Thursday.

The Texas Rangers signed 32-year-old right-handed pitcher Jamey Wright to a minor league contract on Thursday. The veteran also received an invitation to spring training.

Wright, who has pitched for five different teams over his 11-year Major League career, has a career record of 67-98 with a 5.14 ERA. He made a brief stint with the Rangers organization in 2003, making seven starts with Triple-A Oklahoma before being released. The native of Oklahoma City was 6-10 with a 5.19 ERA in 34 games with the San Francisco Giants in 2006.

The righty figures to compete for a spot at the back of the Rangers' starting rotation in spring training.
