Matt Andriese had his first rough inning of 2013, but the future Padre rebounded nicely retiring ten of his final eleven batters faced. Elsewhere, James Darnell made his debut for Tucson, collecting a double in his first at-bat.

Tucson Padres 1 – Tacoma Rainiers 4

Key Statistics DH James Darnell 1-4, 2B, 2 K; RHP Eddie Bonine 6 IP, 6 H, 2 ER, 1 BB, 1 K; RF Jaff Decker 1-3.

Prospect Watch: Not a lot to write home about. The T-Pads managed just four hits and one walk in the game… James Darnell made his first rehab start at DH. While he only ended up going 1-4 with two strikeouts, the 3B/OF/1B saw more than 24 pitches in his four at bats, showing a good eye for someone who is trying to get rid of the rust… The new knuckle baller Eddie Bonine was matching Rainiers’ starter Brian Sweeney pitch for pitch. The hitters were constantly off balance by the knuckle ball, leading to 11 ground ball outs.

Midland Rockhounds 7 – San Antonio Missions 8

Key Statistics RHP Matt Andriese 5 IP, 6 H, 5 ER, 3 BB, 8 K; C Eddy Rodriguez 3-5, 2 2B, RS 3 RBI; 3BJake Blackwood 2-5, 2 RS, 2 RBI.

Prospect Watch: Matt Andriese had one tough inning where nothing seemed like it was working. Every ball hit found a hole and before you looked up Andriese had given up five earned runs in the first two innings. Over his final three innings he allowed just one baserunner while striking four… The Missions continue to lead the league in stolen bases collecting three more. Valdez (3), Fuentes (11), and Noel (14) each had a stolen base… Cody Decker made his first start since replacing the injured Medica. While he went 0-4 at the plate, he drew an instrumental two out walk that helped catalyze a four run seventh and give the Missions a one run lead.

After losing nine of the last ten games the Storm thankfully had a day off. They turn the ball over to ace Matt Wisler tomorrow night at the Diamond in Lake Elsinore.

Clinton Lumber Kings 6 – Fort Wayne TinCaps 2

Key Statistics RHP Matthew Shepherd 4 IP, 1 H, 1 BB, 1 K; SS Maxx Tissenbaum 3-4; LF Alberth Martinez 1-4, HR (1), RBI.

Prospect Watch: A tough day for the TinCaps. No top pitching prospect took the mound… At the plate, they only had three chances with runners in scoring position. No hitter has really broken out on the prospect map, although Corey Adamson continued his upward ascent through the prospect chart. The Aussie went one for three at the plate and has not reached base safely in his last 11 games (14 hits, 6 walks).

For further reading on the TinCaps’ please see the Fort Wayne Journal-Gazette.
