The Texas Rangers and Colorado Rockies swapped Triple-A players and former high draft picks on Thursday, with right-hander Greg Reynolds going to Texas in exchange for first baseman Chad Tracy.

The Texas Rangers acquired right-handed pitcher Greg Reynolds from the Colorado Rockies on Thursday in exchange for first baseman Chad Tracy.

Reynolds, 26, was the second overall pick in the 2006 MLB Draft out of Stanford University, but he failed to solidify himself as a full-time big leaguer in parts of six seasons in the Rockies' organization.

The 6-foot-7 hurler pitched most of the 2011 season at Triple-A Colorado Springs, where he made 19 starts and posted a 6.81 earned-run average. In 109.2 innings, he yielded 160 hits, walked 32, and struck out 65. Reynolds also appeared in 13 games with Colorado's major league club, making three starts. He had a 6.19 ERA in the majors over 32 innings, giving up 40 hits while walking 10 and fanning 18.

According to the FanGraphs pitch f/x data, Reynolds features a four-pitch arsenal that includes a fastball (89 mph), cutter (85 mph), curveball (76 mph) and changeup (82 mph). The cutter is a relatively recent addition to his repertoire.

Reynolds has scuffled in Triple-A each of the last two seasons and saw the bulk of his major league action in '08, when he had an 8.13 ERA in 14 games (13 starts) for the Rockies.

Tracy, 26, is the son of Colorado manager Jim Tracy. The Rangers' third-round draft pick '06, he has played the last two seasons at the Triple-A level. In 134 games for Triple-A Round Rock last year, Tracy posted a .259/.339/.475 slash line with 32 doubles and 26 homers, including 55 walks and 104 strikeouts.

Tracy's pull-heavy approach has limited his ability to hit for average in the minor leagues, but he does have some power to the pull side and has posted a slugging percentage of .475 or better in each of his last four seasons. He is a below-average defender at first base and has also filled in at left field on occasion during his professional career.

Neither player is on the 40-man roster, and both are expected to begin the 2012 season with their respective Triple-A clubs.
