Rangers Winterball Roundup – 12/22

Miguel de los Santos struggled in his start on Thursday despite striking out six batters in 2.2 innings. Lone Star Dugout takes a look at all of the day's winterball action in the Texas Rangers' system.

Yorvit Torrealba went hitless in four at-bats as the Caracas catcher, dropping his average to .241 in this winterball season.

Dominican Winter League

While left-hander Miguel de los Santos missed plenty of bats––as he often does––during his start on Thursday, the overall numbers were rough. The hurler fanned six batters in 2.2 innings but allowed three runs on two hits and three walks. He surrendered all of the runs on a three-run homer to veteran third baseman Pedro Feliz in the second inning.

De los Santos has the following stat-line in five appearances (three starts) this winter––14 ip, 11 h, 8 er, 8 bb, 21 k.

Mexican Pacific League

No Rangers appeared in Thursday's games.

Puerto Rican Winter League

No Rangers appeared in Thursday's games.

Liga Paralela (Venezuela Minor League)

La Guaira took two-of-three games against Aragua to capture the 2011 Liga Paralela championship. Right-hander Arlett Mavare pitched in the first game for La Guaira, entering in relief and tossing four scoreless innings. He gave up three hits, walked two, and struck out six.

Following a good regular season with the rookie-level Arizona Rangers and short-season Spokane Indians, Mavare pitched extremely well in Venezuela this winter. He posted a 1.37 ERA in seven appearances. Over 26.1 innings, he yielded just 12 hits while walking 11 and striking out 23.

The 21-year-old hurler stands just 6-foot-0 and doesn't have overpowering velocity––sitting mostly between 88-90 mph––but he has excellent command and a mature curveball with a usable changeup.
