Arizona Fall League: Surprise 3 – Salt River 9
26-10, 9.5 GU

The Surprise Saguaros dropped the Arizona Fall League Championship Game to the East Valley Division champ Salt River on Saturday afternoon.

Only two Rangers appeared in the game––DH Mike Olt, who batted cleanup, and second baseman Leury Garcia, who hit ninth.

Olt went 1-for-4 with two strikeouts while Garcia was 1-for-4 with an RBI and a strikeout.

Venezuelan Winter League

Utility infielder Guilder Rodriguez played right field for Lara on Saturday, entering as a pinch hitter in the second inning. He had a single and a walk in four plate appearances while also adding a stolen base (his third) and a fielding error.

Magallanes righty Tanner Scheppers (0.69 ERA/.122 BAA) worked a perfect eighth inning, getting one strikeout.

Saturday's appearance from Scheppers was likely his last until spring training. The hurler's contract with Magallanes expired this weekend, and he'll likely spend the remainder of the offseason preparing for the 2012 regular season.

Scheppers had the following line in his last eight appearances––8.1 ip, 2 h, 0 r, 4 bb, 10 k. Three of those four Scheppers walks were intentional.

Dominican Winter League

Escogido reliever Carlos Pimentel (0.68 ERA/.077 BAA) recorded a strikeout and issued a walk while facing only two batters in the fourth inning. In 13.1 innings on the season, Pimentel has given up four hits, walked nine, and fanned 16.

Engel Beltre, who was recently pulled off the Licey roster briefly after a reported verbal confrontation with his manager, entered Saturday's game as a pinch runner in the eighth inning. He didn't have a plate appearance.

Right-hander Fabio Castillo tossed a scoreless sixth inning (plus one batter in the seventh), working around a hit and two walks. He also struck out one.

The 22-year-old Castillo is unscored upon in four appearances and 3.2 total innings.

Mexican Pacific League

Cody Eppley (3.10 ERA/.247 BAA) has been the Yaquis de Obregon closer, but he entered in the eighth inning on Saturday. The sidearmer recorded one out––on a strikeout––and didn't allow a run despite yielding two hits.

Eppley now has 26 strikeouts in 20.1 innings in Mexico this winter.

Puerto Rican Winter League

No Rangers appeared on Saturday.

Liga Paralela (Venezuela Minor League)

There were no games on Saturday.
