18-6, 7.0 GU
After yet another victory on Tuesday, the Saguaros are now 18-6 and seven games up on the second-place Peoria club. With only 13 regular season games remaining, Surprise is seemingly a lock to reach the Arizona Fall League's Championship Game.
Right fielder Ryan Strausborger (.255/.286/.489 in 13 games) was the only Rangers position player to appear in Tuesday's game for the Saguaros. The versatile speedster had a single, a strikeout, and an RBI in four at-bats.
Ryan Kelly (7.27 ERA/.265 BAA) gave up yet another home run––his fourth in 8.2 AFL innings––in the game. Kelly allowed one run in one inning, yielding two hits and striking out one.
According to the pitch f/x from Surprise Stadium, Kelly featured a 92-93 mph fastball––bumping 95 once––to go along with an 88-89 mph cutter and an 82 mph breaking ball. He finished the inning with a swinging strikeout of hot-hitting outfielder Robbie Grossman on the breaking pitch.
No Rangers appeared in Venezuela on Tuesday. Left-hander Edwin Escobar, who was traded to the Giants in exchange for lefty Ben Snyder in spring training 2010, gave up two runs in three innings for Lara.
The 19-year-old prospect ranked as the Rangers' number 31 prospect heading into the 2010 campaign, but he has struggled since the promising debut campaign. Escobar posted a 6.58 ERA in 52 innings between the rookie-level Arizona League and Single-A Sally League this season.
Julio Borbon entered as a pinch hitter in the seven inning, and he flew out to left field in his lone plate appearance. The Escogido outfielder is now 0-for-14 in his last five winterball games.
Sidearming righty Cody Eppley (4.91 ERA/.302 BAA) suffered the loss after he allowed an unearned walkoff run in the bottom of the 10th inning.
Eppley came in with one out in the ninth and got a strikeout swinging followed by a groundout to former Round Rock teammate Val Majewski. The 10th began with a leadoff walk and a strikeout. But when runner Jesse Gutierrez stole second, a throwing error from the catcher moved him to third. He then scored on a ground ball single.
Overall, Eppley gave up the one unearned run on one hit in one innning, striking out two and walking one.
No Rangers appeared in Tuesday's games.
Begins November 4.
