Rangers Winterball Roundup – 10/24

The U.S. will face Canada on Tuesday

Tom Mendonca helped lead the U.S. National team to the gold medal contest at the Pan American Games with Monday's victory over Cuba. Lone Star Dugout takes a look at all of the day's winterball action in the Texas Rangers' system.

Arizona Fall League: Surprise 8 – (@) Mesa 3
13-4, 4.5 GU

Through 12 Arizona Fall League games, Surprise third baseman Mike Olt (.275/.339/.569) has now driven home 17 runs. Olt went 1-for-5 with a double (his third) and yet another RBI in the 8-3 victory over Mesa.

Olt is currently 14-for-51 (.275) with three doubles and four homers. He has drawn five walks while striking out 18 times.

Saguaros starting pitcher Miguel de los Santos (4.50 ERA/.209 BAA) had an up-and-down outing, but he was good enough to earn the win. The southpaw threw 73 pitches (42 strikes) in four innings, giving up three runs. He allowed five hits while walking two and striking out five.

De los Santos has fanned 15 and walked 10 in his first 12 Fall League frames.

Pan American Games

The U.S. earned a berth in Tuesday's gold medal game with a 12-10 victory against Cuba. The Cubans are knocked to the bronze medal game, which is noteworthy because they've won gold at 10 consecutive Pan American tournaments. The U.S. last took home the crown in 1967––right before Cuba's incredible streak began.

On Monday, the Americans jumped out to an early lead and held on late. Third baseman Tom Mendonca, batting eighth, was 1-for-3 with a run batted in. He was also walked intentionally and hit by a pitch.

The U.S. will face Canada for the gold on Tuesday. Canada has already locked up its best-ever international finish.
