Hickory's Alejandro Selen belted his third home run––to go along with three doubles––in eight games on Monday afternoon. Lone Star Dugout takes a look at all of the day's minor league action.

AAA: Round Rock 6 – Iowa 8
L - McClung (2-2)
HR - Cash (2)
30-21, 1.5 GU

The Express fell behind early after starting pitcher Seth McClung (4.93 ERA/.288 BAA) was tagged for seven runs (four earned) on 10 hits in just four innings of work. He threw 89 pitches.

On the other side, Iowa Cubs starter Ramon Ortiz––the 38-year-old former Angels hurler––limited the Round Rock lineup to three runs over eight solid innings.

Righty reliever Justin Miller (3.86 ERA/.169 BAA) has been erratic since joining the Express, but he was perfect on Monday. The veteran retired all nine batters he faced on just 36 pitches, getting four strikeouts.

Catcher Kevin Cash (.222/.323/.370) homered and walked in four plate appearances.

DH Doug Deeds (2/4, 2B) and shortstop Omar Quintanilla (1/4, 2B) both added doubles.

Luis Cruz (2/4) and Matt Kata (2/4) had two singles apiece. After a slow start, Kata has boosted his batting average to .286. He is hitting .341/.387/.482 in 22 May contests.

Cody Eppley (0.68 ERA/.184 BAA) fanned one and induced a pair of groundouts in a scoreless ninth inning. He has allowed one run in five innings since returning to the minor leagues.

AA: Frisco 4 – Tulsa 7
L - Webb (0-1)
HR - Martin (2)
26-24, 7.0 GB

Throwing his sinker between 82-85 mph, rehabbing right-hander Brandon Webb’s velocity as its best yet this season on Monday––but it likely still wasn’t enough.

The 32-year-old former Cy Young winner threw 47 strikes out of 77 pitches in his first non-extended spring training start this season. He logged 3.1 innings, yielding five runs on eight hits, walking two and striking out two.

Opposite of Webb, Rockies prospect Christian Friedrich limited the RoughRiders to just a run on two hits in seven innings of work.

Centerfielder Leonys Martin (.353/.438/.588) went 2-for-4 with his second home run of the season. He also struck out for just the third time in 17 games this year.

Rehabbing leadoff man Julio Borbon worked as the DH and went 0-for-4 with a strikeout.

Mike Bianucci, who was 1-for-4, belted his 10th double of the season.

Left-hander Richard Bleier (5.59 ERA/.325 BAA) finished the contest by working five strong innings on 60 pitches. The sinkerballer allowed two hits (one earned) on three hits, and he fanned two without walking a batter.

A+: Myrtle Beach 4 – (@) Frederick 8
L - Osborne (0-1)
HR - Hoying (5)
30-20, 4.5 GU

Monday afternoon simply didn’t belong to Pelicans pitchers Barret Loux and Zach Osborne, who combined to surrender seven runs in the game’s first four innings.

Osborne was tagged for four runs on three hits, a walk, and a hit batter in 1.1 frames.

Centerfielder Jared Hoying (.255/.346/.414) went 2-for-5 with a solo home run, his fifth of the season. Right fielder Jared Prince (2/4, 2B) doubled for Myrtle Beach’s other extra-base hit.

Although David Paisano has been hitting leadoff for the Pelicans lately, he has posted a punchless .159/.208/.159 slash line in 12 games since coming down from Double-A Frisco.

Vin DiFazio (1/2, 2 BB) reached three times while Andres James (2/4) singled twice.

Erratic southpaw Kasey Kiker struck out six batters over 2.2 innings. He gave up a run on two hits, walking two batters.

Chad Bell (5.87 ERA/.290 BAA) retired all four batters he faced, striking out two.

Between the two clubs, there were 25 strikeouts in Monday’s contest.

A: Hickory 6 – (@) West Virginia 8
L - Thompson (2-3)
HR - Telis (6), Selen (3)
27-23

In his eight games since joining the Crawdads from extended spring training, 22-year-old Alejandro Selen has posted a stat-line to match his scouting report––an aggressive hitter with good raw power.

After Monday’s game––in which he went 1-for-4 with a homer and four RBI––Selen is now 10-for-31 (.323) with three doubles, three homers, no walks, and 11 strikeouts. He has a .323/.344/.710 slash line in the small sample size.

DH Tomas Telis, who was 1-for-3, hit his sixth home run of the season, tying shortstop Jurickson Profar for the team lead. He was also hit by a pitch.

Starting pitcher Matt Thompson fell to 2-3 after he allowed three runs in six innings pitched. The Metroplex native gave up five hits, walked four, and struck out two.

Making his first full-season appearance, righty Nick McBride was touched up for five runs (four earned) in two innings. He yielded five hits while walking and striking out one.

While the result is likely accurate, the information in the box score was wildly incorrect, so it isn’t worth reporting. The box listed right-hander David Perez––who is in Arizona at the moment, and not the Dominican Republic––as the starting pitcher. And then it listed 30-year-old righty Pedro Liriano, who isn’t with the Rangers, as entering the game in relief.
