Frisco left-hander Martin Perez turned in a lights-out clutch performance in the Texas League playoffs on Thursday while short-season Spokane inched to within one game of a league title. Lone Star Dugout takes a look at all of the day's minor league action.

AAA: Oklahoma City 2 - (@) Memphis 3
L - McCarthy (0-1)
Redbirds lead 2-0 (best of five)

Oklahoma City will play the rest of the series with its backs up against the wall.

The RedHawks took a 2-0 lead in the top of the fifth, getting run-scoring singles from centerfielder Willy Taveras (2/5) and third baseman Chris Davis (1/4).

But Memphis came right back against starting pitcher Brandon McCarthy by plating two in the fifth and one in the sixth. In all, McCarthy surrendered three runs on eight hits over six innings, walking one and striking out four.

Catcher Kevin Richardson, who was 1-for-4, doubled for OKC’s only extra-base hit of the game.

Leadoff hitter Hernan Iribarren (2/4, BB) singled twice and walked while DH Max Ramirez (1/3, BB) singled once and walked once.

Lefty relief pitcher Zach Phillips struck out two in 1.1 scoreless innings. Cody Eppley retired both batters he faced on 11 total pitches.

The RedHawks and Redbirds now travel to Oklahoma City, where they will play game three on Friday evening. Doug Mathis is the scheduled starting pitcher for OKC.

AA: Frisco 7 - Midland 1
W - Perez (1-0)
HR - Beltre (1), Greene (1)
Series tied 1-1 (best of five)

The ‘Riders bounced back from a tough loss to post a dominant all-around effort on Thursday evening.

Pitchers Martin Perez, Fabio Castillo and Chris Mobley combined on the two-hit effort, and the offense busted out for seven runs on 12 knocks.

The 19-year-old Perez turned in perhaps his best outing since he was promoted to Double-A late last season. He hurled six innings, giving up one run on two hits. The southpaw walked one and struck out seven.

Perez normally runs into trouble with a high pitch count, but he was relatively efficient on Thursday, throwing 54 of his 74 pitches for strikes. He induced 15 swings and misses.

Castillo followed out of the bullpen with two no-hit innings, walking one and striking out three. Mobley worked a perfect ninth inning with one punchout to close out the victory.

Centerfielder Engel Beltre put Frisco on top early with his long two-run homer in the bottom of the second. The 20-year-old later added a run-scoring single.

DH Jonathan Greene also went 2-for-4 with a homer and three runs batted in.

Joey Butler (2/4) and Andy Jenkins (2/4) both singled twice in four trips.

First baseman Chris McGuiness was 1-for-3 with a base on balls in his second Double-A game.

The two clubs will play game three in Midland on Friday night. Righty Daniel Gutierrez takes the hill for the ‘Riders, as he looks to build upon a solid performance in his final regular season outing.

A+: Bakersfield – Season Completed
67-73

Bakersfield rebounded from a rough start to post a 38-32 second-half record, but the club finished five games behind first-place Stockton and failed to qualify for the Cal League playoffs.

A: Hickory - OFF
BlueClaws lead 1-0 (best of three)

Despite being situated in the same division, Hickory, N.C., and Lakewood, N.J., are nearly 12 hours apart. The clubs took Thursday off as a travel day. They resume the best-of-three series on Friday, with left-hander Robbie Erlin pitching for the Crawdads.

SSA: Spokane 4 - Everett 1
W - McBride (1-0)
SV - Osborne (1)
Indians lead 1-0 (best of three)

The Indians, who have won three Northwest League titles in their seven seasons as a Rangers affiliate, inched within one game of another championship with Thursday’s victory.

Starter Nick McBride continued his recent string of dominance, working five shutout innings and scattering four singles. He walked one and struck out three.

The 19-year-old North Carolina native has limited his opposition to one earned run or fewer in each of his last five starts.

AquaSox starting pitcher Chris Sorce fanned 10 batters over 6.1 innings, but four hits, five walks and an error led to four Spokane runs.

Shortstop Jurickson Profar had the biggest knock with his two-run double in the fourth to give the Indians a 3-0 cushion. He later drew a walk.

Ryan Strausborger (1/3), Jared Hoying (1/3, BB), Santiago Chirino (1/3, BB) and Jake Skole (1/4) had the other hits. First baseman Andrew Clark was 0-for-1 with three free passes.

Louisiana-Lafayette product Zach Osborne struck out a pair in a shutout ninth inning to earn his first save of the postseason.

After a day off on Friday, the two clubs will face each other in Everett on Saturday evening. Tim Stanford is the likely game-two starter for Spokane.
